Holistic Cognitive Training: Equipping Minds Benefits

Four colleagues discussing ideas beneath a glowing neon brain in an office

Our family found the Equipping Minds program during a very difficult season when it felt like there was little hope. We walked through a lot of trauma, and like so many, we just kept walking because stopping wasn’t an option. When we found the Equipping Minds program, I think we were all too nervous to have much hope. After a few months into the program, I realized how many others I knew and didn’t know were continuing because they knew stopping wasn’t an option.

Others with trauma, others with diagnoses of ADHD, autism, or even dementia. Others with brain injuries that have been told you just have to learn to live with this, the damage has been done. And so close to the beat of my own heart the mamas who are witnessing their children struggling and don’t know what to do.

There is hope! That is why I became certified as an Equipping Minds cognitive therapist. This program developed by Dr Carol Brown is different from other cognitive programs because it works on multiple cognitive skills simultaneously. The cognitive gains are great that occur when the brain is having a full brain workout.

It is difficult, just like getting up and doing a workout is difficult. Being committed to health and healing is hard. But is it worth it? The Equipping Minds program is best performed 5 days a week 30 minutes daily. Sometimes your brain may need 10 minutes 3 times a day, or 15 twice a day and some days you may be able to go for 45 minutes before you feel your brain starts to sweat so to speak. But just like working out your body, you will see results when you put the work in.

Another reason I love this program over other cognitive training programs is that it takes a holistic approach. It doesn’t solely focus on cognitive skills, but takes into account the whole person. Past trauma, primitive reflexes, nutrition, and auditory processing help. The program is game based and we’re trained to meet the student where they’re at, as opposed to other programs which in my experience took the standard approach at what you should know and began doing what oh so many educators do and teach to the test. This program teaches to the individual. Where is this specific student at and where do we need to meet this student?
